JD Landrau was born in Puerto Rico. After relocating to New Jersey in 1990, he studied visual arts at Seton Hall, earning a B.A. in 2000.

In 2005, JD moved to Manhattan, learning digital photography by portraying New York’s cityscapes, subcultures and people. From 2010 to 2019, he settled in Brooklyn, and later Queens, documenting the outskirts of NYC’s boroughs, while freelancing as a musician.

Starting in 2016, he toured Latin America—where he photographed Ecuador, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Uruguay & Colombia—returning in 2019.

JD’s current practice is focused on portraiture, fashion, and urban cityscapes.
